Moving to Brazil: Where Opportunity, Culture and Adventure Shape Your New Beginning

Brazil ranks among the most exciting destinations for international professionals, entrepreneurs and families seeking a fresh start in South America. Whether you are facing a corporate assignment in São Paulo, planning a permanent move to Rio de Janeiro or relocating an entire household to Florianópolis: moving to Brazil requires expertise with South American customs authorities, logistical precision and a relocation partner who knows the country’s particularities from first-hand experience.

Corporate Logistics has been organising overseas moves to South America for many years: personally, transparently and with a seamless door-to-door service. From the initial inventory at your home in Europe to the last box unpacked in your new residence in Brazil.

Why Brazil Attracts International Professionals

Brazil is the largest economy in South America and has attracted European immigrants for generations. Approximately 1.5 million Brazilians have German ancestry, and over one thousand German companies including Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, BASF and Siemens maintain operations in the country. Professionals relocating to Brazil find a dynamic business landscape with outstanding opportunities in the automotive, engineering, renewable energy and technology sectors.

The cost of living sits significantly below European levels in many regions. Housing, groceries at local markets and everyday services are noticeably more affordable. The Brazilian Real makes the country particularly attractive for expats who continue to earn a European salary. In addition, the climate ranges from tropical in the north to temperate in the southern states, offering something for every preference.

An established German-Brazilian community, German schools in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre and a capable private healthcare system smooth the transition. For detailed visa and residence permit information, visit the official Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Your Destination in Brazil

The Most Popular Cities for Your Fresh Start

Brazil spans over 8,500 kilometres and offers the right region for every lifestyle. Whether you prefer a pulsating business metropolis, a tropical coastal city or a European-influenced community in the south: here is an overview of the key destinations for your relocation.

São Paulo, the Economic Engine of South America

With over 20 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area, São Paulo is the largest city in the Southern Hemisphere and the economic heartbeat of Brazil. More than one thousand German companies are headquartered here. Neighbourhoods such as Vila Mariana, Pinheiros and Jardins are particularly popular with expats. The city is home to Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro, the world’s largest German school, and offers an exceptional cultural and gastronomic scene.

Rio de Janeiro, the Cidade Maravilhosa

Rio de Janeiro is Brazil’s second-largest city and a global magnet for professionals and creatives. Its unique setting between the Atlantic Ocean and mountain ranges delivers a quality of life that is hard to match. Popular residential areas for expats include Leblon, Ipanema and Barra da Tijuca. The German School Rio de Janeiro and numerous international institutions make the city equally attractive for families.

Florianópolis, Island Living at Its Best

The capital of Santa Catarina state lies on an island off the coast and is regarded as one of the most liveable cities in Brazil. Florianópolis combines idyllic beaches with a growing technology sector and a high level of safety. Its European-influenced infrastructure and an active expat community make the city particularly appealing to families and digital professionals.

Blumenau, the German Heart of Brazil

Founded by German immigrants in 1850, Blumenau still preserves half-timbered houses, local breweries and the world’s second-largest Oktoberfest. Many residents in the region speak German as a second language. For those who value cultural proximity to their European roots, Blumenau offers a unique blend of Brazilian warmth and German tradition.

Brasília, the Capital Inland

The federal capital is the seat of all ministries, embassies and international organisations. Diplomats and corporate assignees find a modern, purpose-built city with spacious residential areas such as Lago Sul and Lago Norte. While the cost of living sits above the national average, Brasília rewards its residents with short commutes and well-maintained infrastructure.

Porto Alegre, Gateway to the European South

The capital of Rio Grande do Sul is a major industrial centre and the starting point for the German-influenced communities of the region. Porto Alegre combines a pleasant temperate climate with a lively cultural scene. The German School Porto Alegre and numerous German-Brazilian associations ease the transition for families and working professionals alike.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know About Moving to Brazil

What shipping options are available for a move to Brazil?
Two main options are available for an overseas move to Brazil: Sea freight is ideal for full household shipments and larger volumes. Your belongings are shipped in containers to Brazilian ports such as Santos, Paranaguá or Navegantes. Air freight is the faster choice for urgent essentials such as important documents, work equipment or clothing for the first few weeks.
What are the customs regulations for importing household goods into Brazil?
Used household goods may generally be imported into Brazil free of customs duty. A valid residence visa (e.g. a work visa or permanent residence permit) is required. Your shipment should arrive at the Brazilian port no earlier than 90 days before and no later than 120 days after your entry into the country. Clearance is processed through the electronic SISCOMEX system. We prepare the complete customs documentation on your behalf.
Can I bring my car to Brazil?
The import of private vehicles into Brazil is generally not permitted for private individuals. Exceptions apply to diplomatic personnel. For all other immigrants, purchasing a vehicle locally is recommended. We are happy to advise you on current regulations and possible alternatives.
Do you also handle pet relocations to Brazil?
Absolutely. Transporting dogs, cats and other pets is part of our service portfolio. Brazil requires an up-to-date vaccination record, an official veterinary health certificate and a microchip, among other documents. We organise all required paperwork and ensure the smoothest possible transfer for your companion.
Is your service available to private individuals or only to companies?
Corporate Logistics serves both businesses managing employee relocations and private individuals moving to Brazil, whether you are emigrating, setting up a second home or planning to enjoy retirement in South America. Our service is tailored to your individual requirements, from a single shipment to a comprehensive relocation package.
